How I got to silver.....

If any of you follow me on Instagram and/or Twitter, you already know my locks of blonde are officially silver! I'm sure I will be getting LOTS of questions about how I got to this color and how my hair is not thrashed and falling out. Pre-apology for the pictures... I have had zero time to take some nice ones so these are all I have.

First of all, this has been a very long and slow process. About two years ago I started getting really fascinated by pastel hair colors. I started thinking about what I would look like if I did it and how I could get to it. Eventually I started the blonde process of just some highlights and making them heavier each time I went in to get my hair done. I was set back for awhile because I decided to do ombré for a few months. About a few months ago I got it to the blonde I wanted it to be and just let it be. Then about three days ago, me being the impulsive person I am, I decided to go silver. I thought hey why not, might as well try something new. So with my mom having a salon license we were able to use some nice bleach. I 100% recommend going to a professional for the bleaching process. We used Goldwell's Silk Lift with the Goldwell Silk Lift 30 Volume Developer. We ended up doing this process twice... in one day... yes I know that's bad. From there, we did our first round of toning with Goldwell's TopChic color in 11SV. Unfortunately, this did not get my hair to the color I wanted it to be. So the next day we purchased a Wella toner in the color T18, formally known as White Lady. To say the least, I am absolutely obsessed with the way my hair turned out.

Considering all of the coloring I do to my hair,  you'd think I wouldn't have any hair at all anymore. Honestly, I am quite surprised it isn't completely thrashed  right now, but I guess me being a freak about the health of my hair has truly paid of! Some things that have helped my hair stay healthy is by putting Moroccan oil on it and doing in-shower hair masks. Another thing I do is STAY AWAY FROM HEAT. I only straighten or curl my hair when it's an absolute must. You should also only be washing your hair every 2-3 days. You have to give your hair time to build up on it's natural oils to stay healthy. If my hair is really sweaty and gross on one of the days I don't wash it, I just run it under some water and on occasion I run some conditioner through it.

My biggest advice is give your hair time to get it to your desired color and think a lot about whether you truly want to commit to this unique color or not. You should also make sure you do your research before jumping into this process. Know everything there is to know about the process and the up-keep. This is all I have for this Friday's update!

Check back in next week!!

xx.

  1. Ha-ha I'm a guy, but I find this post relatable... I started dying my hair recently, I'm straight, only because I thought it looked rather unique compared to other guys hairstyles... Was never able to achieve the color I was going for though, may have just been my hair since it is super fine! I was going for the color of Chris Pines hair in the new Star Trek movies, that color really caught my eye. The amount of maintenance and money it would take to keep that hairstyle and color is too much though. You have to get it cut like every two weeks just so your natural hair color does not start showing again. Keep in mind I'm a guy and we have short hair! So it is more noticeable. Mind my grammar too, not quite on par with yours. Anyway I'm glad I saw this, you have gorgeous hair by the way.(:
